Steve Moslin, whose legal name is Steven Moslin, is a retired database consultant whose career spanned database administration, software development, geographic information systems, and conservation data management. Database Consulting and the U.S. Forest Service
For more than 10 years, Steve worked as a database consultant for the U.S. Forest Service, serving as a contractor through his company, Geonational LLC. This longstanding role formed a significant part of a career focused on helping organizations maintain reliable systems and manage complex information.
Through Geonational, Steve specialized in Oracle database systems and geographic information systems, commonly known as GIS. His work included planning and implementing databases, migrating information from older systems, improving performance, and developing reporting and automation tools. These responsibilities combined detailed technical knowledge with an understanding of how organizations needed to store, maintain, and use their information.
Steve earned professional certifications in Oracle database administration and Oracle E-Business Suite applications database administration. His experience covered database architecture, SQL and PL/SQL programming, installation, maintenance, backups, and application support. Across these areas, his work focused on keeping complex systems dependable and resolving the practical problems that arise when organizations rely on large amounts of data.
GIS and Conservation Data
Steve's professional background also included environmental mapping and conservation information systems. Work connected with NatureServe and Conservation Data Centres involved organizing rare species records, plant community information, and geographic data. He also supported the transition from paper records to digital geospatial databases, helping make environmental information easier to manage and use.
Among his conservation contributions was data management and technical support for the Sensitive Ecosystems Inventory of East Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. His mapping support helped define ecological boundaries and organize information about sensitive coastal ecosystems. This work connected his technical abilities with environmental planning and research, forming an important part of the foundation for his broader career in data systems.

In 2021, Steve and his family moved from Arlington, Virginia, to Sarasota, Florida. Sarasota is now the setting for his retirement, with opportunities to spend more time on interests outside his professional responsibilities. Both Steve and his wife, Trisha Moslin, are active tennis players, sharing an interest that remains part of their life in Florida.
Personal Projects and What Comes Next
Steve plans to focus on personal online projects, potentially including something involving artificial intelligence. The direction of those projects remains open, giving him room to explore ideas at his own pace.
After decades of working, retirement offers time to decide what he wants to build next and to enjoy the interests he has developed beyond his career.
